Evaluation for Depict Production

The final part of your work for the Depict assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of the technical conventions of moving images by exploring the following. Do a blog post called “Evaluation for Depict Production”. Try to include screenshots where appropriate, and explain why you used the following shots/techniques:


Camera Use
  • Shot Distance 
  • Camera Angle
  • Camera Movement
  • Composition (eg rule of thirds)
Editing
  • Cuts/Fades/dissolves 
  • Continuity System (establishing shots, 180 degree rule, eyeline match cuts, match cuts on action)
  • Identification devices (reaction shots, POVs, CUs on main character etc – this is where editing and camera use cross over)
Sound
  • Diegetic (synchronous and asynchronous)
  • Non-Diegetic
  • Ambient
Mise-en-scene and lighting
  • Props
  • Settings
  • Ambient
  • Motivated
  • Low Key/High Key

Paperwork required on your blog for GC2 for the Depict Assignment

You should have the following paperwork on your blog by the deadline for completion of the unit:

  • Initial Idea post (proposal)
  • Shot list
  • Storyboard
  • Location Recce ideas/photos
  • Releases for location (please black out names)
  • Releases for talent (please black out names)
  • Budgeting sheet (if used)
  • Prop/costume list
  • Risk Assessment
  • Police email (black out names and addresses)
  • Production Schedule

DepicT! Research

Go to the DepicT! website and watch a number of the recent and archived entries, then select three that you really like and say why you like them. You should also comment on who you think they are aimed at and why you think they are well-made (use media language).

Add images in the form of screenshots where necessary and add a link to the DepicT! videos you have chosen so that we can watch them too!
